School Trouble
One time when we were visiting Martha Jean and Marvin at the farm, school started for them in the one-room schoolhouse down the road from their home. Apparently Aunt Gertie had gotten it okayed for us to come along for that one or two days. The only thing I remember about it was that Marvin was rubbing the rubber sole of his shoe on the curved metal leg of the desk to make a squeaking sound. The teacher told him to stop doing that, and he did for awhile. But then he started in again and the teacher had him stand in the corner for awhile. It was the first time I ever saw anyone "get in trouble" at school. It embarrassed me because he was my cousin, and I worried that I was somehow "bad" by association.
