Shoot the Cat

Shoot the Cat

When my son Carl was a very little boy, he used to play a game with our cat Fluffy called “Shoot the Cat.”  They would be outside in the backyard and Carl would be the hunter, and hunt the cat by following her through the yard pointing his toy gun at her. The cat would play the part of the prey. She would be the lion or tiger or bear, or whatever Carl’s imagination dictated for that day.

We knew Fluffy was really participating, because every once in a while she would turn around to see if Carl was still following her, and if he was, she would continue to walk away slowly. But once in a while Carl would lose interest and go off to do something else. If that happened the cat would simply lie down and be done with the game. That’s how we knew she really was participating in playing a part in his game.

It was so sweet to watch.  My sweet boy and his sweet kitty.  I don’t have a picture of their game, but here they are together at about the right age.
